Tokyo is one of Japan’s most iconic cherry blossom destinations, offering countless spots to enjoy the fleeting beauty of sakura from late March to early April. Ueno Park is the city’s most famous hanami site, with over 1,000 cherry trees lining its central promenade and creating a festival-like atmosphere with food stalls and evening lights. Chidorigafuchi, near the Imperial Palace, offers a romantic experience where visitors can row boats under arching blossoms reflected on the moat’s waters. Shinjuku Gyoen provides a serene contrast with its beautifully landscaped gardens and multiple cherry varieties that bloom over an extended period. Along the Meguro River, pink petals form tunnels over the water, illuminated at night and lined with chic cafés and food stalls. For a more traditional setting, Asakusa and Sumida Park offer views of blossoms with Tokyo Skytree in the background, blending old and new Tokyo charm. Whether picnicking beneath the blooms, strolling along riversides, or enjoying evening illuminations, Tokyo’s cherry blossom season captures the essence of Japanese spring like no other.

As spring approaches, have you made your plans to see Japan’s cherry blossoms?
They say Japan turns pink everywhere in spring, but if bad weather, missed timing, or overwhelming crowds spoil the mood, it would be such a pity!
Tokyo is a city most travelers never miss when visiting Japan—and even if the blossoms elsewhere aren’t at their best, Tokyo’s sakura will still be waiting for you!

Located in Machida City, Tokyo, Yakushiike Park is a tranquil retreat blending history, nature, and seasonal beauty, and is listed among Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots.
🌸 Cherry Blossoms
In spring, around 300 cherry trees—including Somei Yoshino, weeping, and mountain cherry varieties—bloom around the pond and walking paths, their reflections shimmering on the water. During the cherry blossom festival, the park is illuminated at night, transforming it into a dreamy pink wonderland.
Named after the central Yakushi Hall, which enshrines Yakushi Nyorai (the Buddha of Healing), the park has been a local spiritual site since the Edo period. It retains traditional Japanese garden elements, old houses, and stone bridges, evoking a nostalgic atmosphere.

The One Ridge Greenway (尾根緑道) in Machida, Tokyo, is a hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing, stretching about 8 km along a peaceful ridgeline. In spring, over a thousand cherry trees of 18 varieties—such as Somei Yoshino, mountain, and double-flowered sakura—burst into bloom, forming a spectacular 1.5 km cherry blossom tunnel. The elevated path offers sweeping views of Mount Fuji and the Tanzawa Mountains, creating a perfect contrast between pink blossoms and distant peaks. It’s less crowded than central Tokyo spots, making it ideal for tranquil walks, cycling, and photography during late March to early April.
Strolling along the path beneath the cherry blossoms not only stretches your legs but also soothes your mind. Benches line both sides of the walkway, inviting you to sit down, enjoy a leisurely bento lunch, feel the gentle spring breeze, and simply relax—it’s a quietly delightful experience.

Located in Ota Ward, Tokyo, Senzokuike Park is a peaceful oasis centered around a large pond surrounded by lush greenery and seasonal flowers. In spring, the park becomes one of Tokyo’s beloved local hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spots.
🌸 Cherry Blossom Highlights
Around 200 cherry trees encircle the pond, including Somei Yoshino and Yamazakura varieties. During late March to early April, their pink petals reflect beautifully on the still water, creating a picture-perfect scene. Visitors can rent rowboats and glide under the blossoms for a romantic experience, especially when petals fall like gentle snow on the pond’s surface.

Situated along the Tama River in southern Tokyo, Futakotamagawa is one of the city’s most scenic and relaxed cherry blossom viewing areas, blending natural beauty with urban sophistication.
🌸 Cherry Blossom Highlights
In spring, hundreds of Somei Yoshino cherry trees line both sides of the Tamagawa Embankment, creating a stunning riverside sakura tunnel stretching for several kilometers. The blossoms reflect off the water, offering beautiful picnic spots with wide-open skies and a refreshing breeze. The best time to visit is late March to early April, when the petals drift over the river like pink snow.
